As part of his quest to concertize in all fifty states, Dr. David Kevin Lamb will perform a unique program of organ works at Central Union Church in Honolulu, on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 7:00 pm.
Dr. Lamb is the Director of Music and Organist for the First United Methodist Church in Columbus, Indiana, and holds the Doctor of Music degree in Organ and Church Music from the Indiana University School of Music. He has performed in twenty-six states thus far and has concertized throughout Europe, including performances on the historic Cavaille-Coll organs at the historic churches of St. Augustin and La Trinite in Paris and also the recently refurbished VonBeckerath Organ in the American Church in Paris.
Dr. Lamb's captivating and monumental program will include works by Bach, Handel, Mendelssohn, Dupre, Bedard, and Guilmant. He will also play the enchanting Bolero de Concert by Lefebure-Wely and Billy Nalle's amusing Trio in the Style of Bach based on Jerome Kern's tune, All the Things You Are, or as Bach would have written it, Alles Was Du Bist!
Dr. Lamb has recorded extensively and some of his compact disc recordings will be available for purchase before and after the concert. Dr. Lamb is represented by the Concert Artist Cooperative.
As an interesting side note, Dr. Lamb was the director of the Bloomington, Indiana Pipe Organ Encounter that three of our Hawaii young organists attended last year. The faculty included famous organists and pedagogues including: Janette Fishell, Christopher Young, James David Christie, Marvin Mills, Herndon Spillman, and Joanne Schulte, to name a few. Our Hawaii participants were Miki Yamamoto (now a music major in college), Jordan McCreary (Punahou HS student), and Christopher Lindsay ('Iolani 7th Grader). The Bloomington/Indiana POE was an incredible experience. Next summer, the Bloomington AGO Chapter will sponsor a POE Advanced Program, designed for advanced and accomplished organ students.
